Meet the Gang - Pressed Gang
After 20 years of working in a variety of office based marketing roles I decided that starting my own business was a risk worth taking. Being your own boss is frightening and a lot of hard work, but I am blessed that the city I live in champions those who are creative, starts ups and independent businesses.
Liverpool is a city where I was born and spent my teenage years going to the Tate Liverpool, shopping in the city and hanging out on Lark Lane. I went to many music clubs including Planet X, Pink Parrot and Le Bataeu and I loved the independent music scene. Back then we had places to hang out such as Quiggins and the Palace full of quirky clothes, music and beautiful people.
Fast forward 20 years and both these businesses no longer exist but the buzz for alternative and independent lives on in Liverpool especially so in the Cains Brewery Village and Baltic Triangle area. When exploring this area I wondered into the Red Brick Hangar and Vintage and fell in love and it made me want to do something - something creative.
In August 2018 I dreamt up a concept to show work by artists and creatives I know and love and opened the Pressed Gang in the Red Brick Hangar. Since opening I have created my own work and this gave me the confidence and strength to battle my persistent depression and anxiety which I have had since being a teenager.
I was surprised to find that people actually liked my work and by getting it seen and people buying it gives me such a fantastic feeling and sense of achievement.
I really want to continue to make my own work and have loads of ideas including more screen printing work, prints, t-shirs and cards and more painting. I am delighted that people have taken my work to their heart. I just want to say a big thank you x
